How late is too late?

The discussion came up recently about how late can someone be to a class before we have them reschedule.

In general if a class participant is 5 min or so late, they will only miss a few minutes of the class video as we spend a few minutes at the start of each class going over info like the agenda, breaks, restroom, where to find things, etc. They can join the class.

Usually when someone is running late they call, email, or text us. Messages like:

“Accident on highway, I may be a few minutes late”

or

“I got off shift late, I am on my way”

We’ll do our best to reply and let them know that if they’ll be more than 10 minutes late we’ll need to reschedule them.

Once we’ve held the first hands-on skills practice in the class, it is far too late for someone to join in as they will have missed both valuable video content and a skills practice. We cannot repeat content that the rest of the class has received because someone is late.

Showing up to a class 30-60 minutes late means we need to reschedule that class participant.

If you arrive at a course more than 10 minutes late you will need to email or call us to reschedule, the Instructor teaching the class cannot reschedule you at that moment, because they are actively teaching a class.

Please don’t interrupt them, distract them, or be rude to them if they provide you with info on how to reschedule and then return to teaching their class. If you arrived for a class on time and someone showed up late, and the instructor stopped the class to take the time to reschedule them (go through the class schedule, have the latecomer check their schedule, etc.), you’d be pretty unhappy with the class. We don’t want class participants to be unhappy with our classes. Someone showing up late should not interrupt their class.

We will reply to an email or call to reschedule late participants at no charge for verifiably valid reasons for being late. Same goes for no-shows at class. Oversleeping or just not leaving on time for your class are not valid reasons.

To reschedule we will ask you to pick another date and time from our class schedule and we will transfer you to the new class.
